Lets make Math Easy!

Some young students simply swing into action when they see numbers and feel like playing with them whereas others start looking for an escape. When they go to higher grades, these two types of students find qualifying the Math exams fun and headache respectively. At www.TCYonline.com , we make sure that Math becomes a passion instead of a compulsion. We are always on our toes to find various tips and tricks to Speed Math so that it becomes a fun for our students.

Given below are a few exercises that can help students enjoy Math.

SQUARE OF NUMBERS ENDING WITH 5

Consider A5 X A5
Since in all these cases the right digit of the multiplicand and the multiplier is 5, the right part of the answer is always 25 and therefore, we can mechanically set down 25 as the right part of the answer without any calculation – all that is needed is to find out the left part of the answer and it is given by A X (A + 1).

For example:
152 = (1X2) 25 = 225
252 = (2X3) 25 = 625
8752 = (87X88) 25 = 765625
89952 = (899X900) 25 = 80910025

It is not that the students don’t want to learn Math but the way it is taught. We make sure that Math should not be taught in Math but in a very interactive and innovative way. Look at the following method of multiplying the two numbers close to a base 100.

MULTIPLICATION OF TWO NUMBERS CLOSE TO BASE 100

For example: 94 X 87
94 – 6
87 – 13
------------
81 78 ---> 8178
------------

Here, 6 in the first row is the difference 100 and 94 and the 13 in the second row is the difference between 100 and 87. The right hand side of the answer is obtained by the multiplication of 6 and 13 which is 78 and the left hand side is obtained by the difference between either 87 and 6 or 94 and 13, both of which give the answer 81.

MULTIPLICATION OF TWO NUMBERS ENDING WITH 5 AND HAVING A DIFFERENCE OF 10

For example: 45 X 35

Step 1: First of all write 75 in the last two places of the product 45 X 35 = __75

Step2: Then multiply 4 with 3 and add the smallest of these to the product i.e. (4 X 3 + 3) = 15

Step3: Now place these two digits before 75 to get our required product i.e. 45 X 35 = 1575

MULTIPLICATION WITH 25

Multiplication with 25 is simply multiplying with 100/4

So, 123 X 25 = 12300/4 = 3075

Hope these tricks would help you to solve certain math problems quickly and effectively.
